In 2019 Grangeburn became one of the foundation studs of the Queensland Simmental Bull Sale held at CQLX Gracemere starting in 2021. Grangeburn took this opportunity to expand the herd and enabling more Simmental bulls for sale with an expanded market scope into Queensland. Offering bulls into the QLD market has allowed selection of the Simmental sires that we know are suitable for northern enterprises whilst retaining a type suitable to Grangeburn’s loyal southern producers. The selection criteria is largely similar with exceptions in frame size and coat colour being the main differences.

Grangeburn enjoyed two very strong sales at the Queensland Simmental Bull Sale, securing repeat purchasers in just the first two sales. In 2021, 100% clearance was achieved to a top of $20,000 and an average of $11,800. The top prospect from this draft was 27 month old Grangeburn Quickdraw who was sold to the Simmental Stud of Craig and Trudy Hampson of Springfield Simmentals, Monto QLD. From all reports Quickdraw has produced a really even group of calves that are showing promise at a very young age. After having backgrounded Grangeburn’s bulls at JJ Fitting, Dalma it was decided this was a good option for future years to ensure bulls are well acclimatised to CQ for 4 months prior to sale.

The 2022 sale saw extra lots in the sale where Grangeburn again saw a strong result averaging $13,500, with two bulls really standing out from the crowd. The first of these was Grangeburn Real Talk, a fully imported ET son from JB Livestock Company, out of a grand old donor cow in JB CDN Giovanna, who made our top of $20,000. Selling to Russell Webb of Biloela, Russell really admired the bull on the bull walk the day before the sale and thought he’d cross really well on his Charbray herd.

The second top lot for Grangeburn came in the next lot, Grangeburn Rarefied who sold to repeat clients Lachlan Jensen of Lyndale Grazing through Top X Roma agent Cody Close for $18,000. Lachie explained that “I had no troubles with the first bull, so came back to buy another one”. Lachie along with his fiancé Emma will use the Simmentals over their Brahman and Brangus herd base.

Grangeburn are excited to continue offering slick coated, high growth Simmental bulls for sale for the Queensland market into 2023 and beyond.
